For many Albertans, winter is a time to bundle up and shut out the rest of the world waiting for the warm weather to return, but for true outdoorsmen, winter is a new opportunity to experience Albertas fabulous north country with a new backdrop. One of the most traveled areas of the province in winter is the area surrounding Lesser Slave Lake where ice-fishing is the sport of choice once the cold weather arrives and the snow flies. Lesser Slave Lake is just two-and-a-half hours northwest of Edmonton by car and is located in the midst of the vast Northern Boreal forests. The lake covers approximately 1,160 square kilometers and is considered to be the number one walleye fishery in the province and it is now one of the few lakes where anglers can keep what they catch. Each year, close to 200,000 pounds of walleye are harvested from Lesser Slave Lake and that is one of the reasons the lake has gained more popularity with Albertas outdoorsmen. Come and get your share! |

Walleye are the specie of choice for many anglers in Alberta and Lesser Slave Lake is one of the few bodies of water that have not been over-fished so its not just a catch and release lake. In addition to being the best walleye fishery in the province, it is also abundant with perch, burbot, whitefish, and northern pike. Enjoy fishing for Walleye and Northern Pike in the comfort of a heated cabin on the ice. Fishing tackle, pre-drilled holes, and transportation from the local hotels to the cabins, is all provided. The cabins are large enough to accommodate 6 people. For the diehard fisherman, the cabins are also equipped with bunk beds, if you want to spend the night on the Lake. |
